Cookie policy
What cookies we use on this website, why, and how to change your choice.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device. Similar technologies, such as local storage, do the same job. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your choices and to give site owners information about how the site is used.
2. How we use them
We keep cookies to a minimum. There are two kinds on this site, plus a map that loads only if you ask for it.
Strictly necessary
We store your cookie choice in your browser's local storage so that we remember it and do not keep asking. This is strictly necessary for the banner to work, so it does not need your consent. It stays on your device until you clear it or change your choice.
Live chat and analytics (only if you accept)
We use HubSpot for our customer relationship system and our live chat. If you click Accept all on our cookie banner, HubSpot's script loads and sets the cookies below. The chat button is always on the page: if you have not accepted cookies, clicking it asks your permission first, and HubSpot's script loads only if you choose Start chat, which counts as accepting these cookies. If you reject them and do not start a chat, the script does not load. You can still contact us by phone, WhatsApp, email or through our forms.
| Cookie | Purpose | Typical lifespan |
|---|---|---|
__hstc | Tracks visitors, so that HubSpot can count visits and link them to your contact record if you send us a form | Up to 6 months |
hubspotutk | Identifies your browser, so that HubSpot can match a form submission to your visit | Up to 6 months |
__hssc | Tracks the current session | 30 minutes |
__hssrc | Detects whether your browser was restarted | The session |
messagesUtk | Remembers you if you have used the live chat | Up to 6 months |
__cf_bm | Used by HubSpot's security provider to tell humans from bots | 30 minutes |
These names and lifespans are set by HubSpot and may change, so see HubSpot's cookie documentation (opens in a new tab) for the current list.
Google Maps (only if you show the map)
The footer of each page offers a map of our registered office. The map is provided by Google and is not loaded until you click Show map. When you do, your browser connects to Google, which receives information such as your IP address and may set or read its own cookies, under Google's privacy policy (opens in a new tab). If you don't click Show map, nothing is loaded from Google. You can also open the address in Google Maps from the link under the map.
What we do not use
We do not use advertising cookies on this website. Our web fonts are hosted on our own server, so we do not call Google Fonts or similar services.
3. Cookies set by other sites
When you click a link to another website, such as an Amazon page for one of our books, that site may set its own cookies. We do not control them, so please see their cookie policies.
4. Managing your choice
- On this site: use the Cookie settings link in the footer to open the banner again and change your choice at any time.
- In your browser: most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Doing so may stop the live chat from working. Instructions are on your browser's help pages.
5. Your information
Where cookies collect personal information, we handle it as set out in our privacy notice.
6. Contact
