Free book review: submit your manuscript

Terms

The terms that apply when you use our website, ask for a free book review or work with us.

1. About these terms

These terms apply when you use this website, send us an enquiry, ask for a free book review, or work with us. They are an agreement between you and Trexovia Technologies Ltd, trading as Fable Studio ("Fable Studio", "we", "us"), registered in England and Wales, company number 17440850, registered office 128 City Road, London, United Kingdom, EC1V 2NX.

You accept these terms when you tick the box on one of our forms and send it. If you work with us, your written quote and service agreement will also apply. If the two conflict about a particular project, the service agreement comes first.

Two other documents work alongside these terms: our Non-Disclosure Agreement, which protects what you send us, and our privacy notice, which explains how we use personal information.

2. Using our website

  • The information on this website is general. We try to keep it accurate and up to date, but it is not advice, and we do not guarantee that it is complete.
  • The website and its content (text, design, logos and images, but not the book covers and titles that belong to their authors) belong to us or our licensors. You may view it and share links to it, but you may not copy it for commercial use without our permission.
  • Please do not misuse the site: do not try to interfere with it, send harmful code, or use it for anything unlawful.
  • Links to other sites, including Amazon, are for your convenience. We are not responsible for what is on them.

3. The free book review

The free book review is our free review of your manuscript. You can send the whole manuscript, or at least the first three chapters. We read what you send and use it to decide whether it is a book we can take on.

  • What you receive. Our feedback on your manuscript and next steps, which may include a recommended publishing roadmap.
  • It is free and carries no obligation, for you or for us.
  • We decide whether to proceed. We may decline a book, and we are not required to give detailed reasons. A member of our team always makes the final decision, and we will tell you the outcome.
  • It is not a guarantee. Our feedback is our professional view. It does not promise that your book will sell, win reviews or be accepted by any retailer or publisher.
  • It is not a contract for services. We only provide services under a written quote and service agreement that you have accepted.

4. What you promise when you send us something

When you send us a manuscript or other material, you confirm that:

  • you are the author, or you have the right to send it to us
  • as far as you know, it does not infringe anyone else's rights, and is not unlawful
  • the information you give us is accurate

You keep all rights in what you send. You give us permission to use it, only as set out in our NDA, for your free book review, to discuss and quote for work, and, if you become a client, to provide the services.

5. Our services

  • Roadmap, quote and agreements. Every book is different, so we do not sell fixed packages. If we accept your book, we may first recommend a publishing roadmap for you to consider. We then give you a clear written quote for the services your book needs. Work begins when you accept it, in line with the service agreement.
  • Scope, approvals and revisions. The service agreement sets out what each service includes, what you need to approve and how many rounds of changes are included.
  • Your responsibilities. You agree to give us accurate information, to review and respond to work in good time, and to tell us if you use material that someone else owns, so that we can get any permission needed.
  • Timescales. We give estimated timescales and work to meet them, but they depend on you getting back to us on time, so they are estimates and not guarantees.
  • Payment. Fees and payment dates are set out in your quote and service agreement.
  • Third-party material. If we use stock images, fonts or other material owned by others, they come with licences. If a licence has conditions that affect you, we will tell you.

6. Your rights, ownership and royalties

  • You keep complete autonomy, rights, ownership and direct royalty access. We do not take ownership of your book.
  • Your accounts. Books are published through your own Amazon KDP and IngramSpark accounts, which are in your name. Retailers pay your royalties directly to you.
  • The work we create for you (for example editing, formatting and design) is for your book, and the rights in it are dealt with in your service agreement so that you can publish and sell your book freely.
  • ISBNs. You may publish with ISBNs registered to your own imprint, or with our ISBNs. Where we use our ISBN, we are the registrant of that number and are shown as the publisher in the book's metadata. This does not give us any rights in your book, and you remain the author and owner of the rights. An ISBN stays registered to whoever bought it, so if you later want a different ISBN or imprint, tell us and we will explain the options.
  • Showing your book. We will only list your book on our website or in a case study if you have agreed.

7. No guarantees about results

We bring professional skill and care to our work, but we cannot promise sales, rankings, reviews, royalties or acceptance by any retailer, library or publisher. Those depend on many things we do not control, including readers, retailers and the policies of the platforms you publish on, such as Amazon KDP and IngramSpark, which can change. Their terms apply to your use of them.

8. Cancellation and refunds

  • No refunds for a change of mind. Once you have accepted a quote and work has started, we do not offer a refund because you have changed your mind.
  • Refunds if we fail to deliver. If we fail to deliver the services we agreed to provide in your service agreement, we will refund the fees you have paid for the services that were not delivered.
  • Your legal rights. If you are an individual buying services for purposes that are outside your business, the law gives you rights that these terms and our refund policy do not remove. These include the right to services carried out with reasonable care and skill, and remedies if they are not. If you buy at a distance (for example by phone, online or through email), they also include a right to cancel within 14 days of agreeing to the service. Your service agreement explains how that right works in practice: if you ask us to start work during the 14 days, you pay for the work done up to the point you cancel, and the right ends once the services have been fully carried out, if you have agreed to that.

9. Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that the law does not allow us to limit.

Subject to that, and to your rights as a consumer:

  • we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, sales, royalties or opportunity, and
  • our total liability to you, whether in contract, negligence or otherwise, will never be more than the total fees you have paid us.

10. Confidentiality and your information

What you send us, and our own confidential information, is protected by our mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement. We handle personal information as set out in our privacy notice.

11. Complaints

If something has gone wrong, tell us at info@fablestudio.co.uk and give us the chance to put it right. We will acknowledge your complaint and look into it promptly.

12. Disputes and arbitration

  • Talk to us first. If we cannot settle a complaint informally, either of us may give the other written notice of a dispute. We will then try in good faith to resolve it within 30 days.
  • Arbitration for business customers. If you are buying for the purposes of your business and the dispute is not resolved, it will be referred to and finally resolved by arbitration under the Arbitration Act 1996. The seat of the arbitration is London, the language is English, and there will be a single arbitrator agreed between us or, if we cannot agree within 14 days, appointed by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Each of us pays our own costs unless the arbitrator decides otherwise. The award is final and binding.
  • If you are a consumer, you cannot be forced into arbitration. You may bring a claim in the courts, and we can both agree to use arbitration once a dispute has arisen.
  • Urgent court orders. Either of us may ask a court for an urgent order, such as an injunction to protect confidential information or intellectual property.

13. General

  • Changes. We may update these terms. The version that applies to you is the one you accepted, and we will ask you to accept the new version if a change materially affects you.
  • Whole agreement. These terms, the NDA and your service agreement (if there is one) are the whole agreement about their subject matter.
  • Other people. Nobody other than you and us has any right to enforce these terms, under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.
  • If part is unenforceable, the rest still applies.
  • Governing law. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Subject to the arbitration clause above, the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, but if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring a claim in the courts where you live. If you are a consumer elsewhere, you may also have the right to rely on the mandatory laws of your own country.
