Experienced publishing help, with every decision explained

Fable Studio is a publisher and publishing services company. Our experienced team helps authors write, edit, design, publish and market their books to professional standards.

Publishing means a long run of choices, from the type of edit to the look of the cover and the formats to launch. For each one, we recommend what we think is best for your book, explain why, and ask for your approval before we go ahead. The decision is always yours.

Our work covers book development, design and branding, and launching your eBook, paperback or hardback through your own distribution accounts, making your book available to potentially more than 50 retailers, wholesalers and bookshops, including:

  • Amazon
  • Apple Books
  • Kobo
  • Gardners
  • Waterstones
  • Blackwell's

Whether a particular bookshop stocks a title is its own decision.

More about how we work

How we work: from manuscript to launch

Four stages, with your approval at every decision that matters.

See the full process
  1. Submit your manuscript

Send your whole manuscript, or at least the first three chapters, through the free book review form. You don't need to polish it first.

  2. Review our feedback and approve your roadmap

We send our feedback and a recommended publishing roadmap: what we'd do, in what order, and why. Nothing goes ahead until you've approved it.

  3. Review and sign the service agreement

The agreement sets out what each service includes, the fees and payment dates, and what you'll be asked to approve. Work begins once you've signed.

  4. Review the finished work and launch

We carry out the agreed work and share the results with you. When you're happy with the finished book, we launch it through your own distribution accounts.

Publishing services for every stage of the journey

Your roadmap may include several of these services or only a few, depending on what your book needs.

Questions worth asking any publishing service, including us

Choosing a publishing partner is a big decision, and it's sensible to be careful. These are the questions we'd want answered before agreeing to anything, and we'll answer them for your book before you sign.

Read how we work

Who will be named as the publisher of my book?

That depends on whose ISBN is used. You can use one registered to your own imprint, or ours. If we use ours, we're listed as the publisher in the book's metadata, but that gives us no rights in your book.

Where will my book be sold, and through whose accounts?

Your book is published through your own Amazon KDP and IngramSpark accounts, which are in your name, with our help at launch. Those accounts are how your book reaches the retailers, wholesalers and bookshops described above.

What happens with my rights and royalties?

You keep all rights in your book, and we never take ownership of it. Retailers pay your royalties directly to you. We can't promise sales, rankings or reviews, because those depend on readers, retailers and platforms we don't control.

What does the service agreement cover?

It sets out what each service includes, the fees and payment dates, what you'll approve, and how many rounds of changes are included. It also covers the rights in our design and editing work, so you can publish freely.

Common questions

What is the free book review?

It's a free assessment of your manuscript. You send the whole book, or at least the first three chapters if it's still in progress, and we read it and send you our feedback. A member of the team decides whether we're a good fit for your book, so we may accept it, decline it, or accept it with conditions. You're under no obligation.

What happens after I submit my manuscript?

A member of the team reads it and sends you our feedback. If we think we're a good fit, we'll add a recommended publishing roadmap for you to approve. Once you have, we send the service agreement for you to review and sign, and work begins when it's signed.

How much does it cost?

The review is free. Our services are paid for, and what you pay depends on your book and what it needs. You'll see a written quote and the service agreement, including fees and payment dates, before you commit to anything.

Can I use just one service?

Tell us what you have in mind. After we've reviewed your manuscript, we'll recommend whether a single service or a fuller roadmap makes sense for your book, and the decision is yours.

I haven't finished my book. Can you still help?

Yes. If you have at least three chapters, submit them for a free review and we'll tell you what we think. If you're still at the idea stage, our book writing service covers planning and manuscript development, so send us an enquiry and tell us what you have in mind.
